Thanks for the compliments guys... This panel is important to the entire project. It's where all eyes will go first, whether good or bad.

Test fitting the gauges... looks pretty good

I took a page from Jan Hadley's play book, the engine turn decal!

I wanted a contrast color for the switch locations though. The original panel did something similar.

The engine turn decal has to be lined up properly, the pattern has to be centered and straight... You would "see" it even if you didn't realize it.

Painted the housing...

Looks pretty decent I think...

What's covering the switch areas that don't have the turning decal?

I painted that area with gold/bronze paint, then clear coated. I overlapped the decal about 1/8th of an inch with the clear to lock it down. No peeling!!

I really appreciate the kind words... It's not that big a thing. I spent 2 months reading all the posts here and taking notes from all you guys. I used some grid paper and an old street sign for my aluminum. Be surprised what you can do with grid paper. Once I had the problems worked out it was a matter of center punching the all the hole locations. Finished dash pics coming soon!
Thanks for all the help!

Omg, if this doesn't give you a hard-on, I don't know what will. I never imagined it would turn out like this! Very happy!

Thanks so much for the compliments, you guys are too gracious. I spent 2 months and a lot of thought on this instrument panel. Now I've got to wire it up and make it work!

Thanks so much for the compliments.
I have a series of pictures covering the trailer rebuild that will be posted soon.

I haven't thought about any shows, I still have a ton of work to get done before summer. We plan on using her this summer for fun and then decide next years improvements.

I'm glad you were able to get your sail boat restored. Did you use gel-coat for repair and then paint?

Andrew, Keep us posted on this steering wheel rebuild. I've tossed some over the years because I thought they were too far gone to fix up. Curious about the two part putty, is it hard to form up once it sets or do you have to shape it pretty close to done before it sets up. Is it sandable etc?

The putty works great. Mixes easy and is firm enough to pack into any crack and hold its shape. You have nearly 30 minutes of working time after mixed. Sands smooth, and takes primer really well.

After sanding the putty smooth and priming with a polyester primer (my new fav), I had to recreate the grooves in the top half of the wheel. I ended up using a copping saw blade and drug it backwards to put the grooves back. Then wet sanded, painted, and several coats of clear.
