Hamish Davidson was an early pioneer in fiberglass boats, first building a fiberglass saling dinghy in 1949 (Feb. 7, 1958 Vancouver Sun). He introduced the Frostbite-class of sailing dinghies which became popular in the Vancouver area. Beginning in 1956, Hamish partnered with Gerald Talbot, a naval architect to produce a 30-ft fiberglass hull cruiser. Thornton Grenfell was employed to design the cruiser (Dec. 21, 1956 Vancouver Sun). A completed boat was shown at the 1958 Marpole Rotary Club Boat Show, held Feb. 10 to 15 in the PNE Commercial Building in Vancouver. An article at the time declared that though Skagit showed a 31' fiberglass cruiser at the Seattle Boat Show, the 30' cruiser built by B.C. Glass Hulls had greater displacement (Feb. 7, 1958 Vancouver Sunday Sun). The firm, of which Hamish was a director, went on to produce fiberglass-hull gillneter fishing boats and licensed a sailing sloop design from Rawson of Seattle. Hamish Davidson also was an avid skier and for a number of years offered laminated skis, hockey sticks, and archery bows from the late 1930's on (Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club History).
