Crystaliner Corp.

John W. Norek

2806 The Rhine

Newport Beach, California

Johnny Norek achieved acclaim as a boat designer in southern California. His fiberglass Crystaliner 27' Cabin Cruiser was raced in the Miami-Nassau race, winning in 1959 when driven by Gordon Hoover (a business partner of Don Mucklow who was later affiliated with NAFCO and Hatteras). This was the first fiberglass boat to win the Miami-Nassau race and set a new record time. The winning Crystaliner was powered with twin 280 HP Flynn-Corbett engines (Apr. 18, 1959 New York Times).

Anthony PowerCraft contracted Norek to design their line of boats for the 1959 model year (January 20, 1961 Los Angeles Times).

In December 1959, Crystaliner Corp. was purchased by the Owens Yacht Co. (Jan 18, 1960 Wall Street Journal). Norek then was occupied designing and building a line of Owens runabouts and continued on as boat designer after Brunswick purchased Owens (January 20, 1961 Los Angeles Times).

Crystaliner is still in business and the Norek family still associated with the company: http://crystaliner.com/
