Triumph Boats
Triumph Storecrafters Corp.
Houston, Texas
Before venturing into boat-building, Triumph Storecrafters made and installed store fixtures and furnishings. The first boat model offered by Triumph was in 1960 and was the 29' cruiser model (July 14, 1960 New York Times). The company soon landed government contracts including a $2.5 million bid to produce 36' Navy amphibious assault craft in Channelview, Texas (March 4, 1965 Wall Street Journal). In 1966, Robert Cohen was president, the company bought National Furniture Contractors, Inc., and the name of the corporation was changed to Triumph Industries, Inc. (Feburary 10, 1966 Wall Street Journal). By 1971, Bernard Sampson was president of Triumph Industries and the company showed a profit for the first time since April 1967 because it sold several unprofitable divisions (June 28, 1971 Youngstown Vindicator).
