Sam L. Griffith was general manager of the Enterprise Marine Co., a boat-builder and dealer in Miami, Florida. Sam Griffith is best known for his success in power boat racing including the Miami-Nassau race which he helped first organize. Conceived by Dick Bertram and Sherman Crise (Red Crise), the Miami-Nassau power boat race was first held on December 4, 1956. Griffith, with Bertram, drove a Chris-Craft Sea Skiff "Doodles II", owned by James Breuill, and won that first race (The Bahamas Speed Weeks, Terry O'Neil). In 1959, Griffith placed third in this race, driving "Kim Maru", a 35' Enterprise powered by twin 275 HP Crusader engines. He later raced boats designed by Dick Bertram, finding success in 1960 and 1961.
