Swimobile Boats
Minijet Sportscrafts, Inc.
19 Burnside St.
Bristol, Rhode Island
According to a January 28, 1961 ad in the New York Times, Minijet Sportscrafts, Inc. had offices at 122 E. 42nd St., New York, New York. The Swimobile was exhibited that week at the New York Boat Show (January 28, 1973, New York Times).
The Swimobile belongs to the class of boats known as propelled swim units or ski-tows. Similar boats include the Sea Skimmer. In these types of boats, the operator holds on or is towed behind by the Swimobile while in the water. A short, fiberglass craft, the Swimobile was advertised to reach 15 mph and travel 30 miles on a tank of gas. It had an air-cooled engine, reported to be a 5 HP Briggs & Stratton motor. The Swimobile was advertised by the Hammacher Schlemmer firm of 147 E. 57th St. New York, New York. It was listed for $329.50 (November 1972, June 1973) and $349.50 (December 6, 1973, New York Times)
