Whirlwind Boats formed in November 1947 as Plymold Corporation of America. Charles A. Abramo, Charles E. Wingo, and Elwood C. Hewitt formed the company with the intent to manufacture plywood boats. Wilfred S. Carter and Rees D. Stephens were initial investors and to help build sales. Mr. Stephens shortly thereafter left the company after a dispute with Carter (Carter v. Abramo, et. al, 1953).
