The Southern California Boat Show was first held January 11 to January 20, 1957 at the Shrine Exposition Hall. The event was sponsored by the Southern California Marine Association. The previous year, boats were shown at the general interest Los Angeles Sportsmen’s Vacation, Boat, & Trailer Show, held at the Pan-Pacific Auditorium from April 12 to April 22.  In 1958, the Southern California Boat Show was elevated to become the Los Angeles National Boat Show, still sponsored by the Southern California Marine Association. The show was held at the Great Western Exhibition Building at the East Los Angles exposition grounds from February 14 through February 23, 1958 and was produced by H. Werner Buck and Mel R. Morrison who organized the earlier Sportsmen’s Shows.  Later in 1958, the Pacific Coast Boat Show was held for the first time at Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach.  Organizers Fred J. Taylor, Jr., F.C. Creger (Skip), and Harry Louis put the event together in about six weeks and it ran October 30 to November 9, 1958.
