According to a June 1962 article in Popular Science, Muncie Gear Works introduced their Flexidrive at the 1956 Chicago Boat Show. The president of the company at that time was Ken Spurgeon. In 1962, the Muncie Flexidrive was available with motors ranging from 80 to 155 HP. Red Wing Marine Corp. was one motor manufacturer that partnered with Muncie; their Model 65 engine was re-designed for use with the Flexidrive.
