TOPIC: 18 ft Chris Craft Cobra on E-Bay

18 ft Chris Craft Cobra on E-Bay 6 years 3 months ago #135048

WOW ! The rarer of the rare on E-bay started out at a dollar with no reserve. Now up over 40 thousand.
Chris Craft made an 18 ft model and a 21 ft model. The 18 ft model had fewer made.
At 40 thousand, believe it or not ? is still a great deal ! Especially for the 18 ft model.
It will be fun to watch the final price. 4 days left. So if you have a suit case of cash buried out back ?
Now may be good time to dig it up ?

First, do no harm!
It's a lot easier to buy a boat than sell a boat.(Stole this from a member!)
All that work and hardware store mailbox letters for the hull? Tsk tsk..

Looks like it went for 45,400. I guess the wood boat market is down ?
I was thinking it would have gone for $58,000 to $60,000 ?
After a little research I found there were (51) 18 footers,(52) counting the prototype. made and (55) 21 footers made in 1955 only.
Hull number 001 of the 18 footer sold at Mecum in 2012 for 67,500 dollars.

IMHO that was too much for that puppy. I was thinking more about 30k. Magnifying all the pictures showed that there was a sloppy quick paint job and gaps all around. Typical of a barn find but the seller was putting lipstick on the pig for a sale. Granted it's a collector but whoever bought it must have the bucks to have a complete rebuild and restore to get it up to standards and keep it for personal use.
Ebay made out good on the deal.

goes to show how long I've been out of keeping track of wooden boats. AND how boat gullible I can be ? In fact I almost bought a bridge once ? I think it was in Brooklyn ?

We both got outbid on the bridge. I'm sure it will be coming up again. Meanwhile there is one in Key West up for sale.;)
