TOPIC: Cable Steering

Cable Steering 9 years 2 months ago #104897

I am restoring a 1964 MFG Westfield Custom and I don't know much about boats. I am learning as I go along and was hoping to maybe get some help. I want to stick with the cable style steering system and I was wondering which boat motors this will work with. All of them, some of them, I am not sure. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Shawn. Welcome aboard, always glad to see new people.
Your question about cable steering. Just about any outboard will accept cable steering it's just how to connect them to the motor. Mostly it's just a simple combination of "S" hooks. I've seen very nice restorations where an eye bolt was attached to the motor with the "S" hooks latched to it, sorta cheapens up the end result though. There are several different ways to rig a cable system and I'm sure others will advise you on the best way.
