TOPIC: Mark 75 Timing Belt

Mark 75 Timing Belt 6 years 8 months ago #132885

I have a new belt to replace the one that broke on my mark 75. I'm assuming I need to pull the flywheel to accomplish this? Where can i get a flywheel puller?

A local Autozone car parts place lets you borrow tools like that for free. Put down a credit card deposit until you return it. I barrowed a power steering pump pulley remover/installer for free like this.

What you need is a harmonic balancer puller such as the attached picture from Autozone.

www.autozone.com/loan-a-tools/harmonic-balancer-installer/oem-harmonic-balancer-puller-kit/555524_0_0

Be sure to use Grade 8 puller bolts or they'll break. You can get appropriate-length hi-strength bolts at your local Fastenal Hardware or other screw specialty store.

The Autozone tool is inexpensive but should do the trick. The better pullers will have fine-threads on the puller screw; this gives you more leverage when you're tightening the screw.

thank you!

Now... any suggestions for keeping the flywheel from spinning while removing the 15/16" lock nut? I don't want to damage the flywheel...

This flywheel holding tool, available by Internet order only from Home Depot, is not only a Bargain but an invaluable tool that every outboard mechanic should own:

I can't think of a better-built tool for the money, and it'll ship to the store for free.

Failing that, a large strap wrench would get the job done as well. The Home Depot tool is fast to use and has excellent leverage. You'll also want to use it when you retorque the flywheel nut.
