The newbies just keep coming, your secret is out. 6 years 9 months ago #132722

Greetings to all!!
My name is Eric.
Very happy to have found this site. It looks fantastic. Everybody seems friendly and helpful.

I live near branson MO and table rock lake. { Springfield actually}
I recently bought a 1966 Sea Flite. I fell in love with the pic on craigslist, what can I say. Have always loved those cab forward, swept looking boats, and now I have a headache of my very own. YEA!!!! Mine is a mint green.
All is well except the exhaust. Working on that. It leaked water. I got it off the 289 ford motor and hope to be in the water soon. As far as I know, the jet drive works. Will know for sure later. The man I bought it from seems to be an honest guy and he said it worked. He warned me about the leak in the wet manifold.
I will post pics as soon as I can. Just wanted to say hey to everybody.
Forgive me if my posts are not regular. I drive a truck and don't get home as much as I like.

Yes, you MUST post photos. Some of the guys on this site are pretty unforgiving. If you don't include photos, they will probably call you names and say things about your mom. It's a tough crowd.

Photos, Newbie! You got that?

heres the fun parts.
289 ford motor and a berkly jet drive. The manifolds leaked water at the gaskets.

No, your eyes are correct. That's an HEI dist. in that ford motor. My T-Bird has one too in it's 390 engine.
Worth every penny. You can hear the differance as soon as you turn the key. Major improvement over points.
They make them for chysler also. .

The pic is weird. Got it on EBay.
They have them with the coil on top or on the side. All brand new stuff.

Cool! That 289 is a basic beast that can be twisted and turned into a rocket. Had one in my '67 XL convertible. Your dash looks like it could be out of a Star Trek helm with all the gauges and buttons.
You're a quick learner, Pictures are perfect and you don't need an on-line storage unit.

You have a good engine there however, it needs to be pretty. If you have an ugly engine, you will be shunned at boat shows, people will mumble when you come around and some may use your carburetor for a urinal. I knew a guy who took a V8 powered boat with a really ugly engine to a boat show. Somebody took his engine box and replaced it with a porta-potty. Just an FYI.

Jan, that orange colored exhaust will burn up for sure along with the smoking heads. You will have an incredible loss of power and dead battery. Most engines require some connection between the water pump, alternator and crank shaft. Surly you might have an old mooring line that you can cut up and tie around those components.
Placing a toilet seat on top of the engine box is a clever idea if there's a Chevy engine below. :P

lol
Hes right about the toilet seat on a chevy box.
They don't need to look good if they never get wet. Im still working on that last part.
I will have a shiny wet exhaust when I finally get those 6 broken bolts out.
That brings me to a question?
I want a shiny manifold, but should I get a medium or high rise. What rpm range am I shooting for with an old small block like this? Where does it cruise?
Also, should I start a thread in stern drive, for questions like this?
