Anybody know if this is scheduled yet? When? Same marina? It would be the first of the season for me.

Would somebody please spell that name out for me phonetically... I have a hard time pronouncing it  And don't just say "Kosh"

Cal,

I was wondering the same thing. It was at The Anchor Inn on Lake Koshkonong.
Spell it right and its easy. Kosh-ko-nong

It's on the calendar but not in stone. Probably just the Saturday. Good to see there might be a flea market. Did I start something last year??? I won't have much to bring this year but do have some "overstock".

Hmm. 3 boats need repair...which is the simplest fix?...I better get cracking. If none get fixed, should I bring the one that needs total restoration so people can see what we start with?

It's fun, kicking trailer tires, checkin' boats from Bill's perfection to the ones that are just salvaged and in need of repair. Cover the whole spectrum. Maybe next time.

I just realized if I were a smaller person, I would have a bigger boat lol.

Since I'm new, maybe I just don't know. Would there be any interest in having a category for the best new finds? Like most complete original, needs the most work, most rare, etc? Just brainstorming . . . :)

There are no categories at these shows. Just a bunch of people sharing their stuff, no competition, just good fun and sharing info to boot. Anyone is welcome. I think last year it was a $20 entrance fee which included launch facility and a food/drink gift card which was good at the grill on premises. good sized parking lot and camp/hotel facilities nearby.

Re:Annual Boat show lake Koshkongnan 7 years 3 weeks ago #130712

Another newbie question. From what I have seen, I am assuming the preferred restorations are as close to original as possible. But is a modified restoration frowned upon, or actually preferred as in auto restorations??? Like if I were to enlarge the fins on my Rocket and have an artistic paint scheme, would that be less favorably looked upon???

Please. We are not a judgmental group. Anything goes. If you got it, flaunt it. This is a beer drinking, burger eating crowd.
Here's a pic of one of the entrants, just happened to belong to the guy who organized the meet. Can't get much more basic than that.
The bigger the fins the better. We all like big fins. You will never beat Bill's newer project for fin size though
If you live in the Falls area it's not that far from you, just hook up and go for a fun day. It's about a three hour drive for me and even further for Dr. Go in Wausau. Some of the group comes down from central MN which is ok as long as they scrape the ice off their windshields and dump the snow off the bow before launching.

Re:Annual Boat show lake Koshkongnan 7 years 3 weeks ago #130721

Rocket as to your question of which restoration is preferred. I would say as long as it's not a rare glassic you are messing with, no one is going to be upset. I am always impressed when some one can take a boring old boat and make it something special. Like what Cal did with his shell lake. As for resto mod, I am not a fan, even though I'm sure it is more reliable and comfortable. I always have great respect for someone that can do the research, and the endless hours of searching to find just the right parts to make a boat period correct. Keep in mind this is only my opinion, others may disagree. That all being said I hope to see you this year at the show.

Re:Annual Boat show lake Koshkongnan 7 years 2 weeks ago #130779

Thanks for your insights. I'm so new to this I'm not sure what I have. It is the same Shell Lake Rocket as Cal's. Is that considered to be a RARE glassic, I assume that it is at least glassic material, but rare? I have had thoughts of making it a little more of a Batman boat. . .

IT'S your boat. Do what you want and any criticism be danmexx. I don't know about rare. There are some around but I don't think many of them are still floating. I like the style, especially the rear seat area. I'd like to see what you do to it. Any changes above the water line would be acceptable in my book but there is hardly a boat that I worked on that wasn't modified in one way or another.

Just my 2 cents: I have a 13' boat that might me a lone survivor (at least seen in public) that needs restored. Though I plan to keep it as original as possible, I know I will never find the windshield...and I am tall enough, I don't think I want one anyway. It is such a simple and plain Jane design, that anything I did would not take away from it catching someone's eye regarding beauty as it would not even be noticed in a crowd if it were simple white. I have to modify with adding better seats, or it will not be functional or comfortable with my big Carcass. I will also upgrade to cable steering over pulley/cable for my own sense of security as I plan to use it a lot with the grandkids hopefully one day. All of my mods will be "bolt" on or in, so any future owner wanting the original state will not have to "grind out any mods and repair or re-glass it. That is my simple way to "mod", yet leave stock.

I think just saving the boat and bringing it back to the water for all to enjoy is a success in itself. If you find you have a special and rare rig, then maybe it is a restore to original mission you will choose...easiest if all parts are already there. Some take the rare original back to original glory and then find a very neglected unique rig that might be missing parts and then just let your artistic vision do some dreaming and make something YOU want!

Again - just 2 cents from an amateur.

Hey all,

I am hearing lots of maybe's regarding this show and I am included in that category. We have a couple conflicts and have to sort them out.

There is sad news I learned recently. Our friend, Gene aka Gene Gene, passed away last August. Gene attended a couple of the Beloit events and also the Koshkonong meet last May.

Gene (right) and his buddy Bob with the one of a kind Hydrocon.

Gene and da Coach cruising the Fox.

Deano, Bob, and Geneo with the Shell Lake. Gene and his crew from Northern Wisconsin were great guys to hang out with and he will be missed.

Thanks,
Terry

I first met Gene last May in Kosh - great guy (I also met his great friends and family there too). We really hit it off. I saw him again with his Shell Lake in Tomahawk last August...we got to chat just a few minutes before I to go. Gosh, I am going to miss him (and already do)!... Shows how much we must treasure every outing, every friendship, every member, and every moment. He will be sorely missed this year at Kosh.

So is the rally still on for May 20? It sounds like folks stay over Friday PM. Sounds like fun! I'm gonna try to have my "as found" Rocket there for people to shake their heads at...

Looks like you made another silk purse Bill. I'll probably show up early Saturday morning just for the day. Bringing three 6 gallon tanks with me but still don't know if the engine runs anywhere else but in a garbage can. Still haven't gotten on the water yet so Kosh might be it's initial splash. I have a 100 ft. tow line just in case.
